Silence

powerful words from this article once again came to mind:

...Apparently patients were brought before the piece in order to meditate on it as they died. The brothers were a quiet order, so no explanations were provided. There was no awkward chatter, no ‘sharing’, no halfhearted attempts to piously let God off the hook. There was just silence.

from Existential Modesty and the Death of Brittany Maynard

it has been a long week, in which I have witnessed too much awkward chatter, unhelpful "sharing", compulsive explanations, and half hearted attempts to be helpful or more so, to prove that one has been helpful in whatever words or actions one has administered.

...while I think what would have helped the most, is really just a bit of silence.
